I read an article awhile back that raved about "The Perfect Trout Fly" called the Usual. It is tied entirely out of the fur from the foot of the snowshoe hare, and is suppose to float like a cork, and most importantly trout are supposed to love them Anyone used/tied/heard of them? Anyone want a rabbit foot to try it out...I have a couple.... ;D Aaron Wiebe

here is a pic of a sulpher usual The tail and post are made from the long fur from under the foot and the body is from the fur on the top of the foot. And the ribbing comes not from the hares foot ;D but you can use floss, gold wire, stripped hackle, thread, mono...the list goes on

Take the long pad fur and make a tail You make a post/wing by taking the long fur tie it along the shank pull it vertical and wrap the thing till it is a post (wraps in front of the post) Tie in ribbing dub short fur to eye bring rib forward and tie off as you normally do.

Aaron, I tied a few this winter, none of them have a rib, so they are all rabbit foot only . I used a couple of differant thread colours. When dubbing the body, do so in a way that the under tread shows through. The original tied by Fran Bitters was with orange thread. I use orange or green thread myself. The wings, I have tied in as post, on some I flarred them as in comparadon style. -Yaf.
