ok Aaron - you started it (how was the hassenpfeffer ? ) anyhow - just gatherin info - but ... should I ever get time to go hunting again, you know - bovine skins, grouse, pheasant, ... Curing animal skins is easy, but, curing for storage of bird ... pieces. How / what is the process for curing and storing birds (capes, backs, wings, etc.). Obviously skin them, scrape 'em, but cured .... how ? The meat I might be able to figgure out what to do wth ...

Can't help you with the birds, but since I shot another two rabbits tonight, I should make sure I am doing this right.....just putting pickling salt on the hide, to dry it out?

There may be more info online or in books, but I seem to recall recommendations of wrapping in a ziplock bag and freezing for a while which should kill any lil critters that may be in the hair. Not sure but you may want to check first before throwing in with good stuff so no cross infection happens

been looking on-line lately on this stuff - for furs -- there's lots of info. Sister tanned a rabbit back in school moons ago. I recall salts, freezer, salts, saw dust, etc. Don't have the info she used (go figgure).
Still haven't found much yet on birds though.
If I find info - I'll IM to ya.
