What would you guys say are the top 5 trout flies for Manitoba waters? Being that Im home all week with a sick pup I am getting some bench time in and wouldnt mind getting some flies started for when we move out there.
Here in BC I use a lot of leech/balanced leech patterns, blobs and boobies, apps worms, chironimids, etc.

I would look at each species you want to target. The variety of fish here is astounding. My top for Pike is EP minnows My top still water trout and general fishing is rolled muddlers (or muddlers in general) Red River Catfish streamers in orange

I was gonna tie up a bunch of muddler minnows here shortly so that will work out well.

Another pattern that I have had a lot of success with is a White Death zonker pattern. It has been great for smallmouth, trout, pike, and walleye.

Along with the aforementioned, I'd also include Clouser Minnows (in black/white), backswimmers, neon green caddis larvae and pumpkinheads. In my experience, I've found that pike love just about anything chartreuse and in the late summer will smash mouse patterns on the surface near weedbeds (lots of fun). When the goldeye/mooneye are active, twitching a caddis pattern on the surface will usually elicit lots of hits. Standards such as GRHE, Prince and PT nymphs will also consistently catch fish.

I have had days when the still water trout are aggressive, DDH leach gets tied on and never comes off. Fished maybe a foot below the surface. Sometimes tie on some sort of trailer just to have the 2 hooks in the water is better than 1

Ok, so in Manitoba you can run two flies? Thats interesting. I have never tried that as its not allowed here in BC..

It's really a general rule that we can run two lures (I assume to accommodate the 'pickerel rig'). Fly rodders 2 flies. The bait and plug crowd can to baited rigs or lures with NO limit on hooks on each
