the past week has been enjoyable remembering encounters (10years ago) with two brothers fishing in the roblin russell area.
the encounter gave rise to my learning about the YELLOW SAN JUAN on a #37140 mustad (if bright yellow ,large chenille is not available...try a dubbing loop with your own mix of material). Simply weight hook with wraps of wire in the middle of the hook,apply chenille to length of hook
this past week this fly has proved effective for drum and was irresistible to carp

Brothers can be good fishing partners. I found yellow and orange pipe cleaners at Walmart as part of a larger collection for crafts. Under $10 for enough to last a lifetime of fly tying San Juan worms. Carp, Drum and Cats will go for those weighted flies at Lockport. My favorite color for these big fish has been the darker browns and blacks. Maybe we’ll see you out there soon. Here’s a video from a few years ago…
