I’m definitely up for that!! Ice off can’t come soon enough. I’m patiently waiting for a new tying vise courtesy of Santa. I inherited a very old, very basic vise (early 1900’s vintage) from my father, along with an eclectic assortment of tying material. I’ve been fly fishing for years but just started to tie in 2020 to see what I could do!? Decided to upgrade my vise to see if that would help. I’ve attached a few flies for your amusement! Look forward to seeing you at a MFFA meeting in the new year if (when) the restrictions are lifted. Best wishes to everyone for a great 2021. All the best, Dave.

I’m open to suggestions on patterns to try, think Beautiful, Twin and Corstorphine Lakes.

I’m open to suggestions on patterns to try, think Beautiful, Twin and Corstorphine Lakes. Fly tying is addictive...I enjoy the challenge and mixing things up. I normally stay with woolly bugger ( olive at Twin) leach patterns (Red river) and muddlers for fishing in Manitoba. Last year I started fishing with two flies...tagging a prince nymph behind was deadly.( Browns) utube is a good place to start for learning. Im getting a new 10 weight salt water set up from my wife...that I ordered! He he. Stay safe!

Thanks for the encouragement! Still need lots of practice so the lockdown should be helpful (silver linings)!

Well got the new vise but haven’t done much till today. I’m rusty so tried a few simple ties. Needed to replace some red bead head damsels I lost to break offs last year.

Nice! After a few break offs I always double check my knots and line!

Yup, alway need to check. Upped tippet to 3X floro (8.8 lb.) and that reduced the losses! Another simple fly I’m hoping to have success with this spring.

Thanks, it’s a bit of a hybrid, could be taken for a leech or minnow. Attachments:

looking good, keep 'em coming i really like to see what others are tying. i'm all over the map with tying, i see something that i like or that's different so i try to tie it. i have so many different kinds of flies now...it's crazy i been giving them away. i been working on some semi realistic caddis flies and foam poppers this weekend
