Couldn't have asked for a nicer day, however more water would be nice. The floodway is dried up right to late fall levels and mud, ton's of fresh, wet mud. That being said, I disregarded my better judgment and went straight through it until I got to the main channel where there was at least some moving water. Wasn't long before the first cat of the season was on the end of my line pulling my backing out of it's winter long stagnant state. Throughout the next couple of hours, right up until noon, flies were lost and more cats were landed. 5 in total, lost one mid way, and had something bite me off clean on the strike, likely a northern. On the main channel, the 2 east gates and west 2 are closed, and the middle 2 are open. Water clarity is still quite muddy. No drum to be seen yet, but it shouldn't be long now. A bit of shrubs in the way, but you can still make out how low the water is. (right click > open image in new tab) for better quality And here's a picture of the biggest one. I left my measuring tape in my other backpack, but I'd guess at least 34"

The main channel was hot with kitties. I hooked a few, probably all fowl hooked. One brought to hand, 32". I saw one carp landed, fowled as well. I didn't see anything else, no drums for me either.
Nice kitty Petroh.

Thanks. Two of mine were foul hooked aswell — not much room to avoid it with the muddy water. Hopefully things clear up soon.

Nice looking fish! I have the day booked off Thursday to come out and try for some cats. When you say the main channel does that mean the river side or the floodway?

Main channel refers to the main river. The fishing is still very spotty, but it'll pick up soon. Went out briefly today again, and caught the first drum of the season and lost 2 of what I assume were cats. Wouldn't bother fishing the floodway right now unless your looking to catch a pike or whatever is left in there. No fish are getting in there unless the water rises.

What's the wading like on the river? Enough spots by shore or do you need to get a ways into the water?

I typically like to wade in depending on the water current/height and I've also had success from shore in some spots. The situation on the river by Thursday will be way different so I can't tell you how the wading will be like, there's shoreline constantly appearing/disappearing so you have to judge the situation for yourself when your there.

Myself and some others were out this afternoon. I got 5 cat's and 2 drum on the main channel. The water was up about a foot from the North wind but none the less, the wading is still good right now if you know where your going. Good luck out there!
