Went out today to the red and fished from 5-8. Took no more then 5 casts before I was hooked in. Found a hole where the cats were stacked up in, and my god, if you cast in there, you better be holding on with 2 hands. Water level fluctuated a bit where the shoals were submerged when I waded in, but within the first hour some had started to pop out. Finished the night off with 10 cats, mostly cookie cutter low 30's, and lost 1 as I was trying to bring him onto the shoal. Practically had the area to myself, just a couple shore anglers and they were all huddled up right at the edge of the fence. Left a little early as my forearm couldn't take another 15 min battle, but the bite was still hot. Here's a couple of pics from the night.

Did you go to cabelas about the rod. If they don't wanna replace it try to get something better and don't buy a combo.

Just got back from there and got a new one. The reels nice but the rod is garbage and I'll for sure end up switching the rod out for something better this winter but until then, this replacement should suffice for the remaining weeks.

Nice of them that they replaced it. When you get new one keep that one as a back up. I always have 2 rods with me just in case one breaks.

thanks for enticing me back to the red. yesterday the cats were surfacing almost every where. in a couple for hours 3 cats were landed ( 32in. 36in. 38in) and one leader was broken in the first 5 min of action. the water was higher with the north wind and the casting was not too easy.[/font]

Glad to hear that, especially since you braved through that wind and got rewarded with some great cats! I was debating on going out there yesterday but I thought the trees would be bending more then my rod hah

Stopped by at Lockport yesterday for a few hours, pretty slow. A decent catfish, a sauger and a species I never thought I'd pull out of the Red: a crappie! All on a black ddh leech pattern. May stop by again this evening.

Looks like there's more and more crappies coming out from the red which is pretty sweet. I'll prob be out there this evening to and hopefully end off the week on a good note

Looks like some nice action on the Red. I really need to make that more of a priority. Apparently finishing house projects before winter is more important according to some people...

Ahem (as long as you have a comfortable couch to sleep on)... Hey Dear, I just have to slip out to Home Depot for a little bit to pick up a few more supplies.

Ha right on. We had been chasing some carp elsewhere that evening. Then we probably only went down to the channel around 8:00pm or later. Must have just missed you. Sounds like you had some great action Petroh. We only got a few.

SPENT 2 HOURS WALKING THE RED YESTERDAY. AS STU MENTIONED YEARS AGO : IT'S A GOOD TIME TO SEE THE RIVERBED SLOPES AND FLATS. MANAGED A LDR AND A 30-36 INCH PIKE WHILE ENJOYING THE WIND AND THE SCENERY.
