Headed out to the floodway this morning to try to get my buddy on some cat's on the new flyrod he got. Took about an hour to find some fish as I moved to a few spots trying different approaches. Water dropped another foot or two and the strip that was submerged is now poking out of the water. First cat was measuring in at a reasonable 33". Wasn't long until I had the second one of the day hooked up. Put up quite the fight and measured in at 36". Lost 1 cat mid battle in that spot before I decided to move. Three casts in and I managed 2 failed hook sets on some heavy fish, or so it seemed. It was odd as I was getting hits barely 5 feet infront of me. Finally a few casts later I hook up with a cat somewhere in the low 30's, didn't take a measurement but it was a fatty. This one was tagged so while I was unhooking it, I called it in. My next cast I hook up again, this time it swims off about 60 feet before I lose it. After about 10 minutes of casting, I switched back to the old spot. My buddy was still trying to hook up on his first cat so I gave him one of my flies. Within the first 5 minutes he was hooked up on a 36" cat. I ended up catching one more nice cat and over a dozen drum and my buddy also got another cat landed and a few drum.
