Hey guys,
Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of electronics. Whenever possible I tend to upgrade to the latest version of whatever gadget I "need" to have (my wife hates it).
Anyways, I saw a lot of excellent reviews from Nick and others about underwater cameras and I felt that I really wanted to get some sort of waterproof video device. Up until now I lug around my Sony HD video cam, which takes excellent vids and photos but isn't waterproof and it is pretty bulky. I am constantly dreading the day that I accidentally drop it over the side of the boat while filming the fish of a lifetime.
On a side note, back in the fall I upgraded my phone to the Apple iPhone 4S and was pleasantly suprised that it had a 8 megapixel camera and a full 1080 HD video camera included. Instantly my HD camera had been replaced by a much more compact and useful device.
While using my phone, I once again thought "Gee, it sure would be nice if I could not have to worry about getting the phone wet while I am out on the water (or ice)".
After doing some poking around, I found an accessory that fit the bill and would also save me from spending money on buying a separate waterproof device. The Aryca Smartphone Underwater Casing is a solution for users of any of the current brands of smartphone.
I picked up one of these casings for just $40 and found out later that Pro-Am Tackle in town actually carries them. The case itself is made of a very strong plastic and has a thin, but very strong, membrane on one side that allows you to maintain touch screen interactivity.
I have now used it on numerous occasions and am very pleased with the result of my videos and photos. I am also amazed that the sound quality is just as good, almost as if the case wasn't even on. I bought the Wave version which claims to be waterproof to 99ft.
Some of the accessories that come included are a neck lanyard, a float and a cleaning solution for the case itself. I am very pleased with this product and I now feel safe bringing my device with me wherever I go. I figured this would interest some of you out there who have a smartphone with a quality video device and would want to save some money by not having to buy another "toy" (as my wife calls all of my stuff). ;D
Here are a few pics...
Above is the case with the float attached.
Here is with the phone inside.
Here is one under the water of my bathroom sink. As you can see, the device is on and not a single drop of water gets through the tight seal on the casing.

Hope this helps,
