I am curious if anyone has used the 9wt models from these two series (the GLoomis ShoreStalker or Redington Predator). I am interested in a nice Pike rod. I am, though, concerned about distance that can be acheived with these rods. Most of the reviews are for the shorter rods in these series say it is hard to get much past 40', let alone in the wind.
Just looking for some first hand accounts.

Andy has a Sage BASS Series rod which both of the rods you mentioned are very similar. Talk to Andy about it. The Sage comes with line and I believe the fishin' hole had one or two on sale. The "Largemouth" version is what you'd want. It's equivalent to a 9-10wt.

The sage smallmouth is a very fun rod to fish. I had originally picked up a 9/10 amundson txs reel.. it worked, but what a mistake that was! I have since switch'd to one of the 1600 series reel's by sage and it balances the rod phenomenally and makes chucking a chicken a country mile that much easier. I know a few people in florida who love the Largemouth series rod for targetting red fish and smaller tarpon as well as anglers who use it for Pike and Musky fishing.
It makes a great boat rod, but also works fine from the tube and on the bank. And it's 7'11 length makes turning fish away from the no-no zone much easier.

Andy, how much, if any, difficulty is there casting it say 40-60 ft?
Does the 7'11 length hinder distance at all?
