I was out doing some White Sturgeon fishing on the Fraser River, this April and the guide mentioned that they target them (and successfully!) using large hooligan baitfish patterns. Anyways, here's a few links. Will definately be looking into this the next time I'm on the left-coast. ha ha Sturgeon on the FlyMore sturgeon on the fly

my eldest lived in Lillooet for a number of years and fished the sturgeon from shore with hard tackle
can't imagine anyone using less than significant line since the smallest sturgeon I recall them taking was 9 feet and the largest was 12/13 feet
difficult fish to land and live release standing on shore
they used to refer to them as the poor man's sail fish since it cost little to drive to the river and the fish broke the surface once hooked
have fun

Yeah those Sturgeon are a blast. If you ever plan to head out there and are interested in tanglin' with them on any tackle, go with www.bcflyfishingcharters.com. The guides are very knowledgeable (and love nerding out about fly fishing) and will do everything they can to get you into fish. So... anyone want to go try for Lake Sturgeon on the ol' fly flinger pole? Is there a glob of nite crawler pattern out there anyone could reccomend? ;D
