Picked up a new book at WS last week titled "Rainbow Trout Fly Fishing A Guide for Stillwaters" by Ron Newman.. Apparently he's from the Kamloops area.. The book is a soft cover 272 pages published by Frank Amato. According to the author, the information in the book was accumulated through 30 years of research and data....and data there is . I have read a large number of books but this is undoubtedly the most info i've read in one volume.. It seems that every single page contains useful information that can be really useful. The one short coming for this area is that there is no discussion on minnows as a forage base...the book deals strictly with an insectivorous Rainbow Trout. There are lots of charts and diagrams and the book is organized for a very enjoyable read as well as a reference manual. Just a small sample of the detail involved....Under Waterboatman , Newman lists 15 factors involved such as Season, Day of Moon, Time of Day, Wind Direction, Wind Strength, Air Temperature, Cloud Cover, Barometer, Water Temperature, Water Clarity, Water Level, # Bugs Seen, #Fish Rising, Location, and Miscellaneous. He does this for Shrimp, Chironomids, Bloodworms, Caddis, Dragonfly, Damsels, Mayflys,Waterboatmen, and others, and this is only one chapter....Some of the other Chapters are titled Rainbow Habitats, Sensory Perceptions of Rainbows, The Behaviour of Rainbows, Rainbow Feeding Considerations, and Rainbow Angling Strategies and Techniques. If you fish for Rainbows in Stillwaters I think you'll really enjoy this book...and will refer to it quite often...I know I will......Highly recommended
