Ive been look at this reel for a while now and I think am good to buy it but this is the last test. I was wonder if anyone use them. I also have questions for the people who have them, my questions are:
What are they made out of. Has yours ever broken. And are they worth it.

I have one. I think they're a good value if you have a need for a lot of spools. The cassette (spool) is plastic and the rest of the reel is aluminum. It's a center-mounted cork drag with a small surface area. The drag is decent - fairly smooth and able to apply quite a bit of top end pressure. I've never broken mine. Five years ago they were probably a GREAT value if you needed a lot of spools for spare lines. But these days, I'd be tempted to look at some other options. If I only had the need for the reel and 1 extra spool, I wouldn't get one. Try www.albrighttackle.com. At 50% off, their GP reels are REALLY nice. Hope this helps.

I have 2, and for me they are great, I have all my lines on the extra spools, must have 8 extra spools easy. A few years back I fished with them in Mexico. The reel ended up in the ocean, I rinsed it in fresh water but when I got home the reel was siezed up. I mailed it to STH and they mailed it back to me at their cost just like new no cost. So I have been happy with them. Cheers Ron.

Thank you so much Dale. New subject GPX reels or the GP.

I actually upgraded a couple of old reels at the last 50% off sale by Albright. I got a GP and a Bugati. As far as I can tell, the GP is about a nice a reel as you can get without spending outlandish cash. I haven't seen a GPX but my gut reaction is that the GP is a better bet for the money. Apparently, the GP is the same reel as the GPX; it just isn't machined.
The Bugati reels are OK but after comparing them side-by-side with the GP, I'd say the GP's drag is infinitely more variable. Also, the Bugati's spool release mechanism isn't as nice - you actually have to unscrew something. At the 50% discount, I'd say the GP is worth the extra $$$ in comparison to the Bugati. In hindsight, I wish I'd spent it.
(This all being said, I still have my STH IM-POP reel. It sees quite a bit of use and I'm happy with it. However, like I said before, if I was only going to get 1 reel and maybe one extra spool, I'd probably go with something like the Albright GP.)

Live on the edge!!! Go with the black AND silver... (As opposed to the plain black like me...)

i had the reel in question. it was cheap and cheap spools but have fished with it in BC for salmon and pike here. i found that the mechanism locking the spool in ( little silver pin ) is a little finicky and has let go on me several times ( and at times with fish on ). It is no fun trying to get the line and spool back onto the reel in the middle of running water or deep water. Tried to have it fixed but is still not right. i use this reel if i am travelling and dont care if it gets knocked around but have no confidence in it. will never buy another one. some guides in BC used to use them but wont now because they they just arent durable enough for heavy use.
