If anyone has a minnow trap and wouldn't mind lugging some back into town for me, I'd like to populate the pond at work with some mosquito-eaters. (If they do well, I'll try and sneak in some trout next.) You can PM me if you like. Erika

Ohhhh you naughty, naughty girl. Isn't fish transportation illegal? I wouldn't know anything about this... I want to populate the pond in my backyard as well. ;D James.

Hmm. I guess I figured since the pond is completly un-attached to any natural body of water it would be OK. I'll look into it. Fatheads are apparently great for eating mosquitoes and they do well in shallow, warm, and potentially low-oxygen water. I believe in karma when fishing. I don't want to upset mother nature. Erika

About 80 ft long, 20 feet deep at the deepest. Kind of ballcap shaped, with the hat part being the deep part. Erika

People at the aquarium club use to just throw excess guppies, killifish or Gambusia ( mosquito fish) in their ponds. Slim chance they will winter, but they can be kept easily in a 10 gallon through the Winter and they have live fry every 28 days except the killies which spawn almost daily. One male and 4-5 females kept through the Winter will be plenty to stock next Spring. Goldfish also eat skeeters but are detected to easily with their size and bright colors. I have also stocked SA cichlids outside, man do they look nice come fall, just like wild. I have heard that a Red Devil is a beast on a fly rod too.
Anyways feeder guppies are cheap, they breed like mad and eat like mad. I still would refrain from spreading the word that they are there though.

In the city here I have had a heck of a time finding feeder guppies. I wanted them for my African Cichlids. So they can chase and beat them up instead of each other. I started with 9 bred up to 17 and am now down to 3.
Feeder guppies used to be so common live bearers avaliable for every class room

Any guppies will do, if you want them to breed extra heavy feed them chopped earthworm, they will produce over double. Contact a local aquarium club, most of those guys will give You a bag just to get rid of them.

I'm organizing a collecting trip with Aquarium Society of Winnipeg members August 3rd. We'll be heading out to St.Malo and then to La Salle. I don't recall catching Fatheads in past years. If you're interested you can come work for some!? We have all the paper work and permits to transport live fish.
Anyone who's interested...PM me.
Nick
