fishing seems to be picking up in the floodway and the creeks.
Within the first four casts had 2 carp on for about 30 sec to a minute each, about the fifth cast I had a small drum on, landed a nice cat(one of the bigger ones that I have caught) about half way b/w the red and the spillway.
Cooks and Muckles creeks are full of striped bass, saw a couple of people hauling them in one after another.

Fished the Floodway yesturday for about 3 hours. My first day out this year so anything on ewas great. Foul hooked a Cat which always gives one a good fight. took acouple of White Bass and a Drum over 20 inches. Carp where popping out of the water fairly regularly but none of us picked one up . Only down side was Captain Catfish outfitters cruised right through the riffle we where working . Did the same thing on the way out only difference was he was busey talking n his cell as he was driveing through and i think he hit every rock in there. Well I just marked it down in my fishing log and will just have to return the favor some day. ))) Kim had to go to work so Will and I venture d of to sunset bay on Lake Winnipeg. Scenery was interesting but the fishing was slow. I picked up a couple of White Bass. Water is quite low this year but apparently higher than last year. Talked to some Commercial fisherman at the Warf at Balsum Bay. They felt that the water was still a bit cold and the fishing should improve with warmer weather. All in all a great day of fishing for me. The hatches are starting to happen so the next few weeks should be great fishing .

Hey, Caddisguy
I have been trying for white bass with little success, when those around me picking them up. If you don't mind me asking, what pattern works(and size) well for white bass?

Had a great evening Tuesday at the floodway outlet. First time out this year so my casting was a bit rusty. I started out on the rocky point above the island, but after not much action I waded across to the north shore. My casting was a bit rusty, and it took a while before I started to get into the groove and pick up some fish. As far as numbers go, I've had evenings where I caught way more fish. But I've never before had an evening where almost evey fish was big. I landed three cats all about the same size - Dale took this picture for me of this 34 incher. Dale commented that it would be nice to see some big drum in the river again, and within minutes he got his wish with a real beauty. A little later I picked up this 25" fish: I lost a few big cats, and I landed one ~10 lb cat, two smaller drum and one white bass, and had several foul-hooked carp and cats. When I left around 8:30 p.m. things had slowed down for me, but there were a half dozen MFFAers still fishing. , and I don't know how the rest of the evening went. But I sure didn't feel like the river owed me anything. Light winds, beautiful weather, no bugs. A great evening.

Fished the south side of the floodway outlet just below the spillway where a large eddy was in the corner. I was fishing the slower water and caught 3 cats ( one 37",32". 20"), half dozen drum, one carp, and two white bass. Some fellows standing on the concrete were catching smaller goldeye in the faster flow. All on the size 8, gold cone head, Black wooly bugger.
I was apalled by the amount of garbage and fish remains that were strewn all over.
One eastern European family stealthily bagged and hid, in their vehicle, 2 oversize cats.Their actions clearly suggested they were aware this was illegal, because they did not hide the legal size fish. I told them they could be ticketed for this and the guy and his wife were playing the "dumb-don't speak English routine" just moments after speaking in English to their 13ish old son. The kid was very uncomfortable, maybe he will do better. (PS I am eastern European (Ukrainian) on my mother's side, so this is not racism. Merely an observation)

I was apalled by the amount of garbage and fish remains that were strewn all over. Nothing new here (insert raised eyebrow emoticon) A good place to go to catch big fish but the poaching, littering and depositing of dead bodies make it anything but a pleasant place to fish. "World Class Fishery"....my @$$!

nice to see a pic of a drum that big. do they get bigger??? Bigbore Drum in the Red seem to max out at around 30", but the Master Angler database shows lots from 30-35" elsewhere, like Lake Manitoba.
