I've been using Norton Antivirus 2003 for anti-virus protection and Webroot Spy Sweeper for spyware protection. It seems the Norton Anitvirus 2006 has spyware protection built in. Can I now get by with just the one program instead of two?

Always the tricky type of question. At the end of the day, when it comes to online security and activity protection, more is better. There gets to a point where you probably have too much, and this might be the case with both Norton and another anti spyware product. At the end of the day, weigh the benefits of running both with the pain of having to constantly update and tweak both apps (and there can be constant tweaking for anti spyware products).
I run just Norton 2006, and have always thought their products to be quite good. I find they are getting a bit cocky with their customer appreciation though, acting more like the big bad corporate company than the nice little tech company that I bought my first antivirus product from so many years ago.

Dale,
Not sure if they still sell it or not, but I recommend Norton Internet Security, it has fantastic spyware detection and allows complete control of which programs can access the Internet. It will let you know the instant an outside user tries to access your computer and gives you the choice whether to allow or block them. Another cool feature is that it includes tracking software that will let you know the exact location (most times even the address!) of the intruder.
This software does not include Anti-virus however... although it will block all potential viruses and spyware from ruining your computer, you still need to have some sort of anti-virus software in place to scan your downloaded and attached email files.
Hope this helps, James.

My 2005 Norton Internet security came with anti virus.
My only complaint is the block/allow options panel if you don't read it carefully and know where you are and what you do and do not want, you might block something you want and then it is a pain to undo

Also I have recently found that you need to uninstall older Norton before installing the newer version

Good point Robert. I found that as well when I installed Norton 2006.

Here's something people might find interesting. I've been running Norton 2006 and Webroot SpySweeper alongside each other. The Norton product is supposed to pick out spyware as well as viruses. However, SpySweeper always detects a few "cookies" and other things that the Norton product misses.

Well I have been introduced to a new anti -etc
Call PC-illin (hate the name) by trend micro.
Uses a Kernel so it uses less space on the machine gets updates not onec in a while like Norton but, if needed, mutiple times a day!!
My computer runs boots up and runs faster so when my 30 day trial is over I will get the real version.
Oh and it is cheaper than MacAfee or Norton

Used PC-cillin for a long time until it started to do very strange things to my computer. It locked up all my emails and flooded the computer with popups that I couldn't get rid of... it was only after I downloaded several spyware removal utilities that I managed to get my computer back to a stable state. PC-cillin has been around a long time however and alot of computers come shipped with it already installed. I found that it is a great program for scanning your emails and general virus scans, but offers little protection from malicous spyware...
Just my experience with it... James.

actually I just had a bout with 'Spyware Strike' a nasty bit of malware/virus/popups and the Norton did nothing. Adware and Spybot also said nothing was wrong the Microsoft Beta admitted there was something wrong but failed in blocking or removing it. I got some good manual removal instructions removed files and registry keys but the only thing that found the final 'footprint' (how the machine was getting reinfected at the restore point of all things) was the PC-illin. As in all things...your mileage may vary.
