Well today I did a shwack of organizing, getting ready for my Thunderbay trip and then off to a lodge for the better part of the year. I was cleaning and relubricating reels, polished some brass, was changing split-rings, changing trebles, organizing tackle, etc.
I leave this coming Sunday, April 29. I'll be heading to Thunderbay first with my girlfriend. We'll have about 10-12 days there before we take off to the lodge. I'm looking to get some steelheading in and hopefully some spring hikes and maybe an overnighter, if we feel adventurous. :-P
I'll be bringing 9 rods in total, which is a mix of different rods for different techniques. Two of these rods are fly fishing rods...so far. ;-)
I'm looking to expand my arsenal this year. For now I've got a 5wt which'll be great for nymphing for brookies, midging for whitefish, and micro-popping for sunfish. I think it'll be a nice little rod for walleye fishing as well.
I also picked up a 9wt for the larger stuff. My targets will be pike, muskie, steelhead, salmon, lakers, and bass. I like the heavier weight as I can toss deerhair flies and some of my larger weighted pike streamers. I managed to get about 175 yards of backing on it so in case a fish decides to run a marathon.
My other rods are a mix of spinning and baitcasting. I've got a heavy baitcasting for jerking big Suicks and big soft plastics, and a medium-heavy which is a perfect casting rod for medium sized baits. (6-9 inch)
I've got a 10'6" medium-heavy spinning rod that my g/f will be using for steelhead. Also it'll cast a mile so pier fishing with pixee spoons will be sweet. Also it's got a fast tip and is a great trolling rod.
I picked up a really nice 6'0" jigging rod and paired it up with a Quantum Catalyst Pti reel. Very well balanced and will be great for picking up finicky wallies and worming/tubing for bass.
I've got my ultralight combos which I really like for sunfish, perch, and crappie, as well as using really small offerings for suspended wallies.
So I'm pretty much ready. All I need is a big box for all my muskie/pike lures. It's tough trying to organize 9-14 inch baits. :-P
I'll be posting pics hopefully periodically throughout the summer so stay posted.
Nick
