Has anybody had any experience with a Kodak Z650? It's a 6 MP digital camera with a lense that zooms out to 10X. It is priced about the same as the 6 MP Canon which offers a 4X zoom. And it's only slightly bulkier. I'm thinking that it might be the perfect point and shoot for general purpose. Any opinions?

I don't know about that camera or any Cannon still pic machines....but I hated the "easyshare' software that came with the kodak.
Matter of fact I have deleted all my cameras (3) software from my computers and just use Irfanview
Go with the machine that has the most optical zoom regardless of MP (My Lumix is 4mp but 12x optical zoom)

Hi. Don't know about the Z650, but have owned the P850 for about a year and love it. Very nice colors and very easy to use. But you can check out www.dpreview.com for tests on all cameras from an independent source.

Dale - I have the Kodak Z740 (5MP) - and love it (although looking at updating now to digital SLR ...... ok, moreso dreaming).
It had the measures I was looking for - and when it came down to it - the 10X optical (with GLASS lenses) and 5X digital was the icing on the cake, the low click-to-capture time was also a bonus (nothing worse than pushing button to take a pic and have to wait up to or over asecond for that to happen).
Take a note on Kodaks site though. The Easyshare line of Z cameras has been discontinued (still supported though). So - you might get a better deal - or might want to head elsewhere.
The other contender - for the same line of camera - is the Sony Sureshot S1. The dock printer did it there for us (no PC to sotre/print at the time).
The only drawback I have about the Z740 is the zoom button. To zoom out, you got to watch your thumb as the button is close to the viewpiece. A bit awkward - but ... can get used to it.
In just over the year - I've taken over 2K pics - just love it. Sure there's the Fuji's, Olympus, Nikon, etc.,....... but for a digital started camera with a few extra goodies to play with ........ fit my bill then.

One thing about the Sonys...they use their own memory media (Memory Stick) few PC'c and printers (and zero laptops) have a port for their card. Nothing beats the convenience of taking pics all day and popping the SD card in the side of the Laptop editing, deleting and posting. Question Dale: Have we made this easier or harder? ;D

Hey Dale, I used to own a Kodak Digital (many years ago) and it wasn't bad for general point and shoot. I switched to the Canon Digital SLRs shortly after that and I never looked back. Hey Darrell... let me know if you make the switch to DSLR, I have a few buddies who can probably get you some great deals. As part of my freelancing, I have taken on 3 weddings this summer and have begun to slowly put together my portfolio... link is below. I haven't even linked it over to my website just yet. www.digicandesigns.com/photographyYou guys may recognize some of the spots! Let me know what you guys think. Much more to come in the next few weeks.... James.

Nice Pics James
The McHugh B&W
Did you do it that way because of the bizzare colours of those cliffs?
I have trired (and will try again) to capture those colours but they hase elluded my very modest camera skills.

Hey Robert, As I kinda mentioned in my above post, the pictures in my portfolio were put in there as examples to show my freelance customers what I could do for them. It really isn't meant to be a selling point on the photos themselves although it seems to be turning out that way. As far as the McHugh B&W pic goes... it was more to show that there are different options available for all photos, not necessarily because it was appropriate. It is really hard to see the detail on such a small thumbnail. However, when I sold a print of it at 40" x 30" the detail of those tiny little tubers in comparison to the cliff itself looks really fantastic. Since you requested this one Robert, perhaps this is more of what you were expecting... I have shot this cliff from almost every angle. (when the browns weren't biting of course!) Kinda makes you wish that winter wasn't so long, doesn't it? I will probably re-shoot this one this summer but I think it would be alot nicer to have a fly fisherman in a tube in the foreground casting. Any volunteers? BTW, thanks for the kind PMs from you guys. It encourages me to keep my camera along with me all the time. In reply to the PMs requesting prints, I can do them on gloss, matte and canvas stocks. Let me know what size and stock and I can get you a price back ASAP. If you guys have any specific requests for locations that you would like to see photographed, PM me and let me know. What could be better than having a nice big print of one of your favorite fishing spots hanging in your living room? Especially when you look out the window and all you can see is the white stuff. James.
