As I am running low on my 30ft spool or American Fishing Wire I started a search for something locally available. At Wholesale Sports I found 2 products Danielson and Berkley. Both are nylon coated wire. Since I have used the AFW in 10lb I figured I could try the lowest lb test in each product. With the Danielson that would be 15lb and in the Berkley 20lb. The 15lb Danielson looked thinner than the 10lb AFW and is clear coated instead of black so I thought I hit the jackpot. both products knot fine but the Danielson tested out at <10lb the Berkley tested out at 20lb (and maybe more as the mono broke first. The next step is on the water with pike but I might go up to 20lb with the Danielson as it does have a lower diameter. At <$30/30' spool it is a much better deal than the Cortland toothy critter stuff at $8+ for much less.

I've been using Tyger wire that I got in the States; it's very good for knots. I can't quantitatively comment on the breaking strength. The next time I need some wire, though, I think I'll try the Berkley stuff.

I've been using Berkeley Vanish in the 20+ range as a bite tippet. Seems to be working for me so far...
