Howdy,
Hey ... a box from Cabelas just arrived with (among other things) 10 of the new Scientific Anglers L2L Reconnect leaders ... 5 of the normal ones and 5 of the new sink tip models, described on the package as "One 4ft Type II L2L Reconnect sinking tip preattached to a 5 ft 2X leader" ...
Just wondering what you think of the idea ... the two parts are "preattached" with one of their little connectors, but that connector is permanent (logical) ... unlike the reusable connector that's at the front of the whole thing.
Maybe a good idea for stillwater fishing or nymphing on a stream?

I've never used the SA Reconnect leaders but I've been a big fan of Eagle Claw leader links, which are just a small bit of plastic with holes on each end. Overhand knots in end of the leader butt and fly line hold things in place. For most floating line applications, I use pre-tied leaders and this makes changing them a snap.
When I use a a level piece of 8 to 20 lb. mono for a leader with a sinking line, these things don't work too well 'cause the mono doesn't have a large enough diameter to catch inside the hole when it's knotted.
After some backyard breaking strength tests this past summer, I also stopped using them on anything bigger than trout gear. They have a tendency to give way before a 20 lb. tippet. (And sometimes a 15 lb. tippet, too?)
I guess the SA system is similar to this, just a little further along the evolutionary scale... I have looked at these things and I bet they'll do a good job for you. But I'm curious to really see how they hold up. Maybe you could give us a report on the field testing?
A box from Cabela's is also a nice thing to find in the mail...
