I have a Redington Red.Fly 8/9 that sees a lot of use. I grab it for pretty much everything that lies between big pike. (I really shouldn't say big pike - I should say big flies in HOPE of big pike.)
I'd say it has a TRUE medium action - firm but not slow. It not "tippy" but rather a true mid-flex. It is pretty versatile and you can put an 8 weight line on it and throw small flies at tailing carp or a 9 weight line on it and throw pretty big bass bugs. It also handles heavy Clousers quite well. (Notice that I don't say anything about how well it catches carp...)
Price and quality wise, I'd say they are up with there with the TFO Ti or the St. Croix Reign and deserve a look. But they're hard to come by around here - maybe Wholesale Sports will carry them.
I also got a 5/6 model for my wife to use the odd time she gets the bug. (OK, I admit to borrowing it occasionally...) I think this a nice rod for trout in our lakes or whenever a 6 weight is appropriate.
On a more negative note, Cabela's once had the 6/7 model on sale for a very low price and I picked it up. But it had almost an identical action to the 8/9 and I returned it.
