I got some of this from the Northern Angler. Nice stuff... Very buggy looking. I think it makes a great substitue for hare's mask 'cause it's very spiky. I also believe that the Northern Angler has it available in a wide variety of colours.

Any pics of the results?
How many colours did you get?
I ask this as I was going to post a review (so I will do it here) On Diamond dub.
Basically great stuff but the consistency of the dubbing varies from colour to colour.
The burnt orange had very long fibers while the peacock was tighter and denser

I have the alpaca in grey, dark green, brown, yellow and tan. I saw a pattern for a deer hair emerger in Fly Fisherman magazine a while back and I've been tying up a few. The pattern calls for hare's mask ahead of the wing and I've been using the alpaca instead. It supposed to represent legs and support the fly on the surface.
It is actually kind of tough to dub on; it doesn't really take all that well to the thread. As well, there are a few very dark hairs in it which don't take on the colour of the lighter dyes at all. To me this non-uniformity makes it look even more buggy.
I really want to try a few nymphs with it where the whole body is dubbed with alpaca instead of just a small portion on the front.

and there, my cousin was raising alpaca's (aka hay-burners) ... and all I had to do was rustle up one (returned after clipping of course) ............ From what I recall of the hair, I can see that it could be a hard single thread dub - have you tried a dubbing loop ?
