I know there is a path from Lyons parking lot, was there a couple of weekends ago. I tried this, first time there, and got to the two bogs and the path seemed to get pretty sparce for carrying a float tube. I thought the bogs were the lake and was not impressed. I now know that I didn't go far enough. I have also heard there is a way through the Falcon Lake turnoff, and I drove around there but could not find it with the scribbled directions that I had, however I now know how to get to the hatchery. Could someone please give the best directions they can for the Falcon Lake way, and if possible, the status report on the trail past the two bogs, is it worth fighting through the trees to get to Camp this way. Thank You.

Lurker - The trail to McHugh is at the cloverleaf turnoff to WestHawk, not Falcon. Take the turnoff and go around it until you are just about to go under the bridge (the Hwy). The just before going under the bridge, turn off the road to the left (west), and you will find a large, open, grassy area. Turn toward the south side of that area, and you will find trailhead signs for a Xcountry ski trail, toward the southwest of the clearing, and the trailhead for McHugh at the southeast corner of the clearing. You can drive right up to the trailhead , which will keep your vehicle a little better hidden from the highway traffic. From there, the walk is about ten to fifteen minutes to McHugh. The trail is relatively obvious. When you get to McHugh, find some tigers. As fro the trail from Lyons to McHugh and Camp, not sure, never done it. Ken

I think to access Camp from Falcon you need a boat. The trail runs into the Falcon shoreline east of where the road ends. .
Do you have the provincial parks map of the Whiteshell that shows pretty much everything in the Whiteshell? I think the trails you are interested in show on that map and you can figure out access to them.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong 'cause I'm just going from not-so-recent memory.

Ok Lurker,
Let me say this... I have taken my tube through that trail after the 2 bogs and it is pretty tough going with a tube on your back.
Anyways, here is the way that I fish both McHugh and Camp in one shot (if you have time to do both). I am sure that someone here will post the "backway" in as well but I find that way to be a lot more tiring and complicated to find if you haven't gone there with someone else before.
The easiest way I have found to hit both is to use the Hwy #1 entrance to McHugh at the West Hawk Lake turnoff. The walk-in from there is only about 15 mins or so and no super steep valleys to climb. Anyways, once at the lake I hop into my tube and fish the shoreline till I get to the other side. Then I get to the portage and slap the tube on my back again. After a short walk up the portage you come out at a road and turn left. Not far from there on your right is the trail to Camp and you are past the worst of the valleys and the Camp trail. Then it is a short jaunt into Camp...
That is the easiest way I have found but you have to have some time and be willing to hit both lakes. Maybe if you are free one weekend we can fish it together and I can show you.
James.

Thanks guys. The info for the Falcon route is in an older post on this board, and I couldn't figure it out. If there is someone that can explain this way better, please do. I was going to try to get to both Camp and McHugh this weekend, weather dependant on which day (Saturday or Monday)

Hey again,
A while back Aaron W. gave me these instructions on how to get into McHugh "the backway" AKA "the Falcon route". Since then Rob and I took the backway and these instructions proved to be pretty accurate. As I said though, Rob knew the route already so it was a whole heck of a lot easier than trying to find it myself.
This is Aaron's instructions: "to get there, go all the way down the Falcon lake North Shore road keeping to the left....right before the end there is a clearing on the left hand side, at the bottom of a big hill, it is the pipeline trail, and you park there, and walk on it continuing eastwards.
you walk up a hill, then across a flat section, and then there are two big valleys, and the mchugh trail cuts to the left at the top of the second valley...should be a sign but it could be gone...I would recommend going in that way with someone who knows the way...it is also closer to get into Camp via this trail. "
Hope this helps... James.

Thanks James. I think I will stick to the Westhawk way this time, might be a bit longer, but I think I know where i am going here. By the way, plan on heading out Monday early if anyone is interested.

James, used your instructions and managed to fish both lakes yesterday. Thanks. Unfortunately the fish were not so helpful. Got into McHugh and immediately found a very large brown surfacing in the fist bay that you see. After half an hour of hitting him on the head ith casts and going through all the flies I could put on, I gave up on him. Slowly went around the east bank and was getting a few fish on the finder, but nothing would cooperate. Found my way into Camp from there and there was nothing to see on the finder until I got to one of the rock faces that come straight down into the water. They were stacked up like cordwood on these (I fished three places like this and all were the same, more fish than you could count but nothing would take). I did manage a small rainbow from one of these places and got a very small perch in the middle of no where, thought it was weeds. However, I now know where to head if I have a day to kill. Thanks.
