I haven't fished this lake so my advice maybe moot (I'll be applying tactics used on other water) but it gives me a chance to say 'Hi' to you! I have moved this thread to the lakes section as it seemed appropriate. The food base for this water is scuds (fresh water shrimp) minnows and caddis (as well as beetles, snails and leeches). This late in the year you might want to forget about (but not eliminate) the caddis hatch and concentrate on the scuds. My way (which may or may not not work for this lake) to fish this situation would be a follows. Fish the north part of the lake (you're on your own figuring what road gets you there though one does) or north side of any bay. Early and late in the season this is the part of any lake around here that is warmest as the spring and fall sun hang low in the south all the short days. In your tube or what ever cast to shore points and structure and retrieve your fly with starts and stops. Most aquatic bugs swin and stop with scuds a 4" strip on your line with a decent pause will work. If it doesn't change the speed of the strip and the lenght of the pause. At first try slower tug and a longer pause. If that doesn't work then a longer strip, then a faster one etc till ya find a retrive that works. If on the off chance the fish are rising to a hatch then soak an unweighted nymph (or emerger pattern if ya got one) in floatant and cast near a rise form and twitch it ever so slightly. This imitates a caddis emerging from it's case/larvel form. Good luck hope someone who has fish this lake at this time of year chimes in before you go. And post a report in the reports section when you get back. I hear the fish in there are fussy but monsterous. ;D rb
