Well I do 90 percent of my fishing with my fly rod. I was working in the Pas for a while this year and when fishing season opened I went to clear lake several times trying to catch a lake trout on my fly rod. Having no success I went to the local fishing shop on my day off and the lady who owns it told me to try a tube jig with a sucker belly. So that day it snowed in the morning but I was determined to go later on. It stopped snowing but became very windy so the fly rod was out. All I wanted was to say I caught a lake trout fly rod or not. Well fishing for a couple of hours with no success I suddenly had something on but lost it. A couple of minutes later I had another bite. Then a few casts later bang I hooked into something big. I fought this fish for about 10 minutes all along thinking it was a big pike. I was by myself and had forgot my camera in my hotel room. After about 15 minutes my foreman showed up and luckily he had a camera. He got the following action shot. I managed to get it close to shore and saw it was a big lake trout. I had no net so I jumped in the make sure It didnt get away. The lake trout measured 43.25 inches. My first and only lake trout to date. I tried several more times with my fly rod but never even managed a bite. I was still happy about the one I caught.

Yep from shore. I was going to use my belly boat but the waves were to rough. It has a shallow spot in front of the rocks and then drops to probably 25 feet or so. I fished this spot with my belly boat and fly rod several times and you can see the bottom a long way out. Clearest water I've seen in Manitoba. Next is catch one on the fly rod.

That may be your only trout but it's equivalent to a couple lifetimes' worth of smaller ones... Nice catch!!!!
