In my 'signature' at the bottom of all my posts i have put in a link called click here to find out more about FLY FISHING Right now there is just a page with some links but as a winter project i am going to write some stuff about fly fishing. Some history, casting mechanics, terms and definitions, tactics, tying etc. Though I hate the word it is going to be aimed at 'beginners'. But the only ffr that is a beginner to me is one without a rod or with a rod but is fishless. Once you can cast a bit and catch a fish you are no longer a beginner in my mind but 'intermediate' and that petty well sums up most of us. I figure some are more experienced but unless you make all your $ from ffing (that would make you an expert) then we are all just different kinds of intermediate. I am looking for ideas on what you all out there would like to see and read essentially i will write some over views and then links for more info. But if ya want i can do step by step tying/casting instructions some pictures or what ever. Also if anyone of you want to contribute an article of some sort that would be awsome. rb

RE:" But the only ffr that is a beginner to me is one without a rod or with a rod but is fishless"
I am at present in the "with a rod but fishless" category; however, this is to be rectified next season (hopefully!). I would like to see some step by step info. on casting techniques. Although there are many other ff sources out there, it would be nice to gain some knowledge/insight/tips from local folks. Just my 2 cents.
Keep up the good work Robert; I think this site is a real winner!!

I have created a beginners section and one of the pages is on casting. There is only one graphic so you may want to search the web for MPEGs on the subject. And thanks for the compliment ;D

Well still not winter but in my quest to improve things for us i have built a "main" website. It will be a place to host your photos, fly pictures and fishing tips, trips and general education! (email them to me) The other main advantage is it is easy to find! I know when we are out fishing and we meet another FFr we try to direct them to this board. I used to say go to MFFA.org and click on the link to us but as we slip down that page and maybe even off it we can now direct to the "main" site. The addy is easy to remember mbflyfishing.20m.com/ but if you just remember [glow=red,2,300]mbflyfishing.20m.com[/glow] then anyone who types it into a search engine will go right there....sweet. I am still looking for pics, articles, lessons, fly tying stuff etc for the site.....something to do over the winter For those already here you can click on the link in the header of the main board here.

I deleted the guest book people can come over here I guess I have stuff in there now but here are the things I would like from you all. I would like as many of you to veiw the site and offer suggestions. Pictures Preferrably of you and the fish but I am taking all now. Pictures of your flies and some tying instructions/material list Stories /testimonials on fly fishing. I am particularly interested right now in an "Evolution to Fly Fishing" Type story. Or trip stories (ffing in manitoba though) I Could I guess write it all but I want this site to be about all of us. Tell anyone who drops in about fly fishing and ffing in your life or area of Manitoba

O kay i have gotten rid of all the ads on the Main web site So no pop-ups or banners YEAH! I will point out 3 things. 1) I have paid for this out of my own pocket (not much so no worries) and as i'll give my advice, whatever, for nothing (you only get what you pay for) ......... 2) I make zero from all this. (watch as he grows the 3rd arm to pat himself on the back) I do it for the same reason as you.....the love and learning of fly fishing. ( I haven't even paid to keep ads off my own business site) 3) we are pop-up free on the message board the travel one that appears on the first page is OK the ones we get in the general are all fly fishing related (if you click on the odd one it helps keep them there as opposed to "other" kinds) n.b I have no controll over the ads. Since they are placed there based on the topics the ones we get in the "casting" section are funny. Lots of stuff on ceramics and other casting molds. ha HA ha All in all good so far as this has all been up in this form since i got back from vacation in August. have fun. rb p.s. I have put in lots of new stuff and will continue to do so over the winter so take a look once in a while and pleas offer any input you can

I have opened up a chat room but i need to know from you all when a good day and time would be? I will assume that it will be at night but i could use some input as to when would be best. The good thing is that anyone can join in you just pick a name (please use your nick or real name so as not to get confusing) and you can start chatting (typing away) So when do y'all want to talk?

Hi Robert
the chat room idea sounds great- Wednesday or Monday around 8 pm?. Maybe others can chime in regarding what they would like to see- a tying night)- bringing your tying probs/ issues questions and we could walk through in real time some answers- that sort of thing. We could do a tying the - McHugh Stinky Ugly Bug Nymph night- post a list of materials on the forum before hand and then walk through the process in the chat. Just some thoughts- I,m sure there are many others:)

So far i have heard from 2 others and they seem to like a weekend night thing. Thursday nights tend to be a little better for me and we would need to get more of a concensus before picking a solid day...or just pick a day and go with it.
