Happy New Year to all and thank you for accepting me into the group.
My wife and I were both born on Vancouver Island and are currently living in Kelowna, BC. I was a reel builder for Islander Precision reels for a few years and also have my own reel repair business.
We are currently researching making the move to Manitoba and thought joining a few forums for the things we love would be a good way to chat with some locals.
Look forward to learning about the area's as we try and figure out where we would want to move to!

Cool. Manitoba fly fishing sure isn't the same as in B.C., but there are a few on this board that can point you in a good direction.
This board is generally slow, as FaceBag has taken over so much. However, on this site you will find a lot of 'old guys' who actually know how/where to fly fish in Manitoba (in addition to other provinces too).

Yeah I have noticed its pretty quiet in here. I am on facebook also and have been using it a lot. We are just waiting to hear back if my wife gets a government job back in Victoria where we moved from, in which case Ill go back to building Islander Reels... But if she doesnt get that job then we are going to be Manitoba bound for sure! And right now its looking like Swan River area will be where we end up..

Welcome. The western part of Manitoba has some excellent fishing opportunities. Some trout lakes to start reseaching (just a very few for starters...) Patterson, Tokaryk, Twin, various lakes in Duck Mountain provincial park, all of which are south of Swan River. North of Swan River: Barbe, Clearwater (many more, but not my stomping grounds). If you go after pike or walleye, there are literally thousands of lakes in Manitoba. Trout streams are few in number in Manitoba, two would be the Pine River and Steeprock river. absolutely check out: swanvalleysportfishing.com/learn-more/All the best Rick

Thanks guys for all the info... I do like to euro nymph now and then so if I can find any moving water to fish I definately will! But I am mainly a lake guy.. I would absolutely love to get into some pike on the fly and even walleye.. We dont have them around here.

We got lots of Pike, you'll find it hard to not catch a pike here I wish there was a fly that didnt catch pike, they consume it, annoying to land, and slimey. Bass are tons of fun on a fly.

Yeah we had bass back on the island and have them here where we currently are. Got a 19" small mouth a couple years ago on a 4wt and it was the best fight Ive ever had on a fly rod. So much fun!!!
Im thinking the bucktails I have tied up for the big rainbows here in Okanagan lake would also work for pike!
Tiger trout and Brook trout are highest on my list of want to catch fish. Pike and walleye for sure too as I have never caught or eaten either.
