A new species for me? I caught this catfish yesterday but when I posted it on social media someone from the south called it a channel cat. It has the spots we see on juveniles and forked tail, but it's so dark (came from very clear water) and the mouth was more sucker like than we see in our cats. I know places have different and sometimes wrong local names. We call a walleye a pickerel, a drum a bass, a pike a jack, etc. they call a weekfish a trout and a sunfish a breem (brim). One could wonder if it one of those cases. Nope, a little research found that the channel cat is the most widely distributed of cat fish.
