I am doing some research on the typical flys used in the waters of Southern Manitoba. I am starting with the dry fly group. Can the membership chime in with what dry fly list they use? Your efforts are appreciated in advance.

I would say we don't use a lot of drys. At least not the trout kind. We do use a lot of floating/popping types of flies for pike though. Outside of pike I like to use the standard Adams, Tom Thumb, Humpy. My favorite dry to use on lakes at sunset is the balloon caddis. All the perch in the world can't sink it till a trout sees it

Hi sedge I am from Winnipeg and I am targeting local waters for the season. Portage Diversion eastward to Kenora and from Southern Manitoba lakes to the border. Pickerel (walleye), Perch, Small mouth Bass for the table and anything that is fun to catch and release. Walleye essentially. I am a novice and have yet to gear up. I do some Fly tying and hope to get better at it. Tying for skill building exercises at this time. I will build fly's specific to my adventure. Pointers are welcome. There is lots of info around on fishing in MB, a few links: Marketing by the local govt/tourism: huntfishmanitoba.caThe fellow that runs this board has lots of info posted: flyfishingmanitoba.com/The Manitoba Fly Fishers Association: www.mffa.orgIf you are completely new to fishing the area and want to get a jump on catching fish or getting to know some areas, you may want to consider going out with a guide or joining the MFFA and going on some of their outings or teaching sessions(one coming soon). Lodges and outfitters are listed on the huntfishmanitoba site, or you can go to the MLOA, the manitoba lodge and outfitters association for a listing MLOA.COM. For walleye you might want to try some streamer or leech type patterns. Bass, the popper style Robert posted are fun. Pike, pretty much anything that moves. Keep as many of the slimey pike for your table as you want please. Finding your own spots is kinda part of the adventure too. www.canadamapsales.com/
