Haven't been here for awhile, but after reading a few posts, I'm jazzed to do some casting tomorrow. Oh, and if you see this Harry you should know that after my baptism last year, I'm thinking of converting to Buddhism.

I doubt if the Buddha could reverse the results of your baptism or prevent future ones so conversion may be meaningless. Perhaps one of the water deities? We should get out practicing casting on some water. Harry

Surely a soaking wet angler must still have a Buddha nature?
Regardless, I think it's less about prevention than extinguishing the desire to remain dry or wet for that matter.
Casting was crap, and yes it is better to cast upon the water, but I don't know when I'll get out again. Do you have somewhere special in mind?

Yes, first open water on stocked trout water. And yes, once aversion and desire for your state of wetness is replaced with equanimity only large fish will fall to your fly. I think I read that somewhere. Wetness is after all just a construct of the western mind and has no basis in reality.

Yes, and never discuss Buddhism with someone who wields a zero weight rod! Anyone know if there's open water? Unfortunately I'm restricted to close to home. I ordered a new three weight which should come in this week or next; can't wait to try it out. May put a double taper line on it and see what that's like.

Hope you got a glass or bamboo rod...they're soooo much nicer than graphite. At least that's what my experience with fibreglass tells me. Still looking for that nice cane rod.

Fibreglass, you'll have to sell me on that o'wise one, but bamboo!?!? Have you been holding out on me? Did you win the lottery or something?
What I did get came in today: Fenwick HMG 7'6" 3wt. Limited lifetime warrantee.
Flippin' it around the living room, feels like a nice medium action. Hope the wife goes to bed soon so we can have some alone time.

There are a growing number of fly fishers that have sold all their graphite rods and now fish strictly with fibreglass. This winter I accumulated 5 glass rods, 2 were quite expensive and 3 were ridiculously cheap and I like all of them better than all of my graphite rods...except for the Redington CT 2 wt. I have a soft spot in my heart for that rod. There are a couple of websites and a forum out there exclusive to glass rods that contain a wealth of knowledge should you be interested.
Then the bamboo crowd says cane is way better than glass so why not give it a try? There is a ready market for certain bamboo rods and if you spend a bit of time searching you should be able to get one that can be resold for what you paid, should you not like it. New cane costs so much because it takes a minimum of 40 hours to build a decent rod. The trick is to ID the the type of action you want, something I have yet to do.

Get Itchy to build you a Boo rod, get it local and it will cut the cost down. Cheers Ron

My sporting/hobby budget is done for the year, but I'll keep it in mind for next year.
