What can I say, I have heard stories about Mirror Carp in the Red for years but never did I see a picture of one until today. Tom, who hails from B.C. came to our fair city to fog mosquitos, decided to try some fishing down at the spillway and this is what he caught. One heck of a Carp and the first Mirror I have seen.

The pic was taken in June before the water levels went up again. Tom has been out here for 3 months and may be headed back on Tue. Anyway another confirmed Red River junkie.

Speaking of rare catches, I witnessed one of our members pull a rock bass out of the floodway this week. I've never seen one come from those waters before. How common are they in the Red?

I've caught rock bass in tributaries to the Red, so I know they must be in the Red too. I think that you don't get them very often around Lockport because they hide from the big guys like the cats and pike that will pick them off there.

I caught a mirror carp at Delta this spring...my first ever. Then I ran into some folks electro-shocking the area and mentioned my catch. They told me they were pretty rare and estimated that about 1 out of every 100 carp in the area are mirrors.
