From 7-930 tonight and caught five cats with the biggest being 36 inches. All under strike indicator woolly buggers (to lazy to cast but hey. It worked)

I wonder if anyone other than me has had the nutty idea of fishing the floodway outlet from a float tube?
Last year, with the high water and all, I found that I was able to fish the plunge pool far more effectively from the tube than I could from shore, especially at the outflow of the culverts at the bottom of the outlet control stucture. Cats and drum were in abundance when I gave it a try last June. I wouldn't say that I "slayed" 'em but I had enough fish to make it a fun experiment.
My biggest problem when fishing in 10 feet of murky water is having any confidence that a fish can find anything on the bottom. This winter I tied up some bright shiner immitations with a prop on the front to see if some extra vibration makes a difference. Hope to give it a try in the next 10 days or so.
Now, fighting cat from a float tube, as opposed to shore, is an entirely different experence. Even with a net on hand, I gave up and paddled to shore to beach fish....TIM

Agreed. You have very little leverage out of the tube with those damn cats. Took the tube out twice last year, and struggled with a 33". May try it a few times this spring.
