OLD SPLIT CANE BAMBOO ROD RESTORING QUESTIONS?Ok i have found a old very old bamboo flyrod its a very light rod...
It is missing a few snake eyes on the tip and middle section
And most of the thread wraps are letting go on the rest..
What i am wondering is this..
What would be the best epoxy/glue or varnish to use on the eyes and the for thread wraps?
I have tried before 5 Min epoxy on spin casts rods but i notice in a year or two it seems to let go..
It cracks and gets yellow.. Works great for a year or two dont get me wrong..
Not quite the epoxy i want to use need something better even if its not epoxy...
Also on this old split cane rod the ferrules at the base end it has come off and the rod is letting go,
Its like it needs to be re-glued an tied and left to dry,,,most ends of the rod are letting go
and splitting. You can see each tiny triangle that makes up the rod letting go from each other
at the end where ferrule used to be fitted....
Now down to the nitty gritty!
What type of glue would be used for glueing this old rod together originally?
Or what glue will work better?
Oh ya one thing Sand paper and varnish and suggestions?
***And I will be using ONLY using this old antique bamboo rod for beautiful small stream brookies
nothing over 10 inches.
If bigger then i will be forced to cut the line!..
Thanks
