Start of the year (mid May) was definitely slow with the high waters. June 10th: no more water flowing over the spillway. Kitties on caddis nymphs June 13th: I was able to hook into some cats on #10 nymphs. And found about 15 drum (had only caught max 3 drum per previous trip) Cat #1: Broke my 9' 9 wt ECHO Cats #2-4 (2/3 cats made runs well into the backing multiple times) - others made typical stubborn cow-ish like fight Cat #5: Was a long-winded fight. Fellow tried landing the cat by grabbing the line but the hook popped out June 17th: 32" Carp caught on a #16 fly to "match the hatch"!!!

Looks like you've managed to get into some nice fish. I've only made one trip so far this year, and it was almost good. If the carp I caught had been a 1/4" longer, and if I hadn't LDR'd a nice looking cat, I would've left pretty pumped.
Think I'll try to get out there this week.

Yeah it would be a good time for those looking for carp. The floodway is wade able from either side if you know where you are going. Maybe get lucky with the cats if they get active at any point. Last trip out only had luck catching gold eye the odd drum and that carp. I have a feeling most of the cats left for flowing water...but one day without a cat don't mean you won't find some in there.

I hope someone tried fishing during this super moon. I have a feeling the cats might have been doing some night feeding in the spillway.

Got out to the floodway for the first time ever on Friday. Fished the spillway between the islands with dark head/white body DDH leaches. Managed a few goldeyes and drum in about 4 hours of fishing. Bait guys beside me were doing pretty good with the cats in the shallow slack water, other baitcasters were out on the mouth of the spillway, and they kept saying how good they were doing, but I didn't see them catch that many. Another fly flinger was out on the other side of the spillway and I did see him in a good battle with a cat. The main river was still flowing pretty good, in my opinion, an upstream cast would swing by me in probably 20 seconds, but like I said, first time fly fishing there so I don't know it that is fast or not.
