Woo-ya!!! Just about finished my new hex cane rod, ready to head up to fairford to give 'er a go. Will post pics, once both tips complete.
But got to browsing fleaBay couple days ago, found a raft of vintage cane rods being auctioned, got tempted, and scored three nice old hex fly rods. Can't wait to get them home and have a look how much restoration is needed. Should be fun.
Cheers
Ken

Ken, glad to hear you got Boo. Maybe if their is enough Boo posts a new section will be created. I am just scratching away, hence the nickname, at 6 virgin tonkin strips in hopes of them turning into a 5 wt. I am working on getting the 60 degree bevel in before working on the taper. I would love to see your new vintage Boo, i still owe you a chunk of wood, catch Ya at work. Cheers Ron.

... Ken .. dunno if there's room for 3 addicts, so ............... I QUIT jimmeringjammeringflipflamlowleygoodfornutinpieceofgarbagecarp Homedepot bamboo - why I otta ........ just as suspected - the HD bamboo is doodoo ........ although it crosses the lower flexural values of Tonkin, the density of the fibers isn't sufficient. Scratchy, just after you left the other day, I continued pressing the nodes and overpressed another ....... well, I goes to untweak it and [glow=red,2,300] EL SNAPO ! ! ! [/glow] so - I thunks - lets try this again, less over pressing ........... same .......... more heat less pressing ............. same ......... I could quote a sheet metal tech at work, but ............. I won't suffice to say, it's nogood ......... so - I went on to generate me a nice tapered splice block ........... (little word of advice, when the little voice in the back of your head says stop - ya know - at that last split second before the youknowwhat hits the fan - build reflexes to listen - immediately ....... your nerves are very close to the cuticles surface and dance for hours - even with an icepack - after an impact to a pointed immoveable metal object ............ I think .... not speakin from experience or anything ..............) Ken - good luck ... keep us posted .... it's a danged driving addiction that will cause you no-end to pain and grief, and suffering .. and .... (well, you know) ................ Scratchy ..... *(&@#$()* HD bamboo - I need to get us some Tonkin - until then .............. gotta go get some flies tied Itchy,

Can't go fishin - ice is disappearing .... can't tie flies - cracked skin busts thread ....... can't make rods - no Tonkin ........... can't even make a raisin pie ... no raisins ........................... scotch ... think I got some scotch somewhere HEY ! ! ! maye we can borrow Ken's boo .... need to see how things were done ............. ;D
