I'm interested in having the cork grips on one of my rods re-shaped. Who does this kind of thing?

Dale i have used just a drill before for making cork floats it worked not bad ,, i never used a file but tryed sand paper worked fine.. Heres vid if you want to get creative best would be just a wood lathe,, i dont know about a file i would just try different grits of paper to get the feel of it./. Heres one that is near perfect for what you need,, For rod building CLick on the IMage Its on Listed on FEEBAY RIGHT NOW but would be valuable rod building tool,,,, IF you want that is Best of Luck ~~~~~~~~CREEK ~~~~<;}XXX<~~~~ ..

Dale if it is on the rod, which I figure it is, you need a evening some sandpaper, any refresments and tunes you enjoy and have at it. Not all that complicated jut needs the time to shape it and move on up through the grits until you get a nice finish. Cheers Ron.

What grit would you start/finish with?

Sorry for not getting back to you. I would not use a coarse grit, if it is to coarse it will pull out big chunks of cork. On the flip side finer grit will take you more time. I do not know how much cork you want to remove, so you will have to adjust the advice to suit your shaping. Start with 120 grti and if it is not going quick enough go lower, remembering that coars will remove biger chunks and need more sanding to get it back to smooth. 120 grit with some sort of wood backing stick, sand 2-3 strokes turn the grip and repeat, with 120 you have more strokes and hence a more even round removal. Go at it until you are close to shape and then go up the grits, 220, 400 and 600 if you like and you should be done for dinner. Good luck Ron
