Very few drum tonight. Between my bro and I I think we only got around 6. We both, however, got ma carp (his 31", mine 32" both were fatties - 22" girth) and a I got a couple of cats - 27" and 33.5" - missed my first ma kitty by a lousy half inch. Oh yeah, lots of goldeye too. Lost my brand new net too. So if anybody happens to snag a medium size Measure Net - you're welcome. Didn't really float, as advertised.

That is a weird evening. lol. I lost one of those measure nets in the La Salle River. They definitely don't float.
Congrats on the carp! You'll get your chance on a MA catfish. Persistance...

water seems to be up another foot from tues
the only fish seen surfacing were the cats
landed 3 cats the first 25 minutes on the water
landed 2 more cats later, ldr one, foul-hooked 2 and only encountered 1 drum
was a good thurs afternoon till the clouds rolled in @2:30

The drum are disappearing. Only one tonight, along with a few goldeye and this 37" fella.

Drum bite sure has cooled down recently. Today only one hooked, and was able to land it. Had something big that swam out to the middle of the river and released the hook. Probably foul hooked catfish. Otherwise a long night of casting for nothing. Kind of surprised there weren't a few Goldeye either.

Nice fish Bruce! What did you get it on? (if you don't mind me asking).

size 12 pheasant tail nymph dead-drifted on a sink tip line.
The bigger fish were hitting the nymph droppers and the goldeye were chasing streamers.
It's topsy-turvy world out there.

Thanks for sharing.
I have a serious wooly bugger bias that I need to get over. In my head, I have a hard time believing that fish can even see those small nymphs in that muddy water. But they obviously can... I've even proved it myself!

Honestly, I don't understand how they can see those flies either. Equally mysterious is how those thin wire hooks don't break or straighten on bigger fish.

Cause that's what they eat...LOL
I find it amazing that any fish can live in such conditions and find enough to eat - not because the food is absent, but it has to be found. In the muddy waters, ya gotta think that anything sighted that looks remotely like food gets inhaled. You can always spit it out later!....TIM
