I have also been looking back at my hours spent on this Red this spring, which got me thinking about next season and all the bruiser cats that need to be wrangled. But why wait til next season and forget the feeling of a monster cat over winter...when this season is not over yet. Last afternoon I jauntered over to the floodway with my 7wt hoping to catch at least one fish. Eventually I hooked up with a nice drum about 20." I had a couple more bites and a lot more snags. I was fed up with having to wade out and free all my snags, so I switched to an unweighted fly. Trying my luck I got another snag, so I yanked on the line hoping to free my fly but the snag started to move...NO WAY...I got me self a biggun!!! It took me no longer than 7-8 minutes to bring in the 36" brute. I was very surprised on the performance of my 7wt ECHO against a big cat like that, I might try that setup again next spring. The retrieve had to be very slow for any action, I was pulling 1 cm of line each strip. I wanted to stay later to see if anymore cats could be taken, but as the sun was going down my toes started to feel like I had been playing hockey for a couple of hours...hopefully I'm not tying on those skates until late November

WTG on the October Cat. Really nice looking fish.
Did you see any sign of carp poking around at all?

Those carp are definitely still in there, splashing around and such. Though did not see them congregating on any of the shallows/flats. Did see a few rises, not sure if that was drum or carp.
