Hey Stu,
What time were you planning on heading out? (Weather permitting) I wouldn't mind hitting the river, tomorrow.
Can you get away fishing a floating line in the main-channel right now?

Hopefully I'll get there around 8:00 a.m. or earlier and I plan to stayuntil 1 or 2. Right now you can get away with a dry line.

I got down there this a.m. and the current on the east side was non exsistent. Fished the main channel for a while and caught zilch. Walked up to the floodway and met three other fly fishermen. I gave some casting lessons to Chris and Todd and Eric looked like they could handle the line no problem. No current in the floodway either but I did manage 3 hits and missed those. I took Chris back to the floodway mouth and did some casting there. Missed one Cat while I was bringing the fly up for another cast, I also had another fish on but as I was walking toward Chris to give him the rod the fish ran me around some boulders and broke the tippet. Had a few other hits but missed. Overall my fishing down there this year has been the pits. I just haven't figured this out yet. One important note THEY ARE PUTTING A FENCE ALL ALONG THE EAST SHORE!!!!!!!!!!! Why I don't know but I think it will be impossible to fish down there anymore. Does anyone have an answer? ?

Stu:
re: the fence: how far down the river?
This is an outrage. Once again, the risk management a$$holes will ensure that no one leaves their homes, so we'll all be safe. This WILL require a concerted letter-writing campaign...TIM

It's a great thing to have people who protect us from ourselves ;D ;D This is obviously a liability issue decision. Pretty soon no fishing will be allowed at Lockport because of paranoia.

Hey Stu, how am I supposed to give up on the shore if they fence it off? Thanks again for the advice & hardware! We all got something from your casting advice...I learned that catching my leg, a rock & a tree is not the usual when fly casting. We'll have to do that again.
P.S. if you have an image of the stickleback pattern we were talking about pls toss it my way.

Todd go to the fly tying section and look under the heading Some Tying. You will see the pattern there. Gold tinsel body with a guinea fowl wing but it does work better with a pheasant tail wing.

the only spot left in the spillway that seems to be holding any fish aside from the mouth is on the north side, go to that litte point and cast towards the gate, not much there aside from the odd sauger and goldeye but when i took my friend there we kept hooking into little cats on our bobbers, when i took my fly rod there only managed two goldeye. this was last week sometime? fishing may have changed due to the fact the water is so low.
