From rubbish to reasonable. Spent a lot of time on the water and can definitely say that practice makes you a better caster. My accuracy is certainly getting there and starting to get some decent distance as well. I had some line issues with my 9wt that definitely frustrated me. Couldn't rock a fly passed 30ft at all. No matter how light a fly.
I did a lot of casting into and around cover last year. I'm still definitely a snag-meister but I was able to catch a lot of fish from cover last year. Totally fluked a beautiful cast under a long dock. The fly scooted perfectly to the back of the dock. I landed a 19" largie from that cast which made it all the better.
Definitely watching youtube videos of casting and doing some reading helps to iron out all the small things lacking. My biggest break-through was getting the double haul down. Totally opened a whole new can of worms...san juan worms that is.
How was everyone elses casting over this past year? Any break-throughs?

I just noticed this thread...
A few years ago I bought a George Robert's video from Cablea's. I think it was callled "Saltwater Flycasting - 10 Steps to Distance and Power."
The video was a real "Eureka" moment because I think it does a better job of explaining the concept of loading the rod and lengthening the stroke better than anything else I have run across.
