Went out this evening to try my luck there was a very large mayfly hatch going on as the su n was setting this fish were feeding heavily on these. There were two kinds of flys hatching one species was about 3/4 of an inch long and white in color and the other was tiny only ab out 3/16ths of an inch long. The fish were not interested in any of the offerings I had . I had nothing close to match. I was surrounded by fish they were even bumping into my legs as I was wading in the channel.

Harry always at this time of year carry some size 10 and 12 GRHE. You could have caught tons of fish.

After waiting awhile for the river to settle down, I decided to give Lockport a try last Saturday morning, in spite of the still-high water and a forecast of steady rain.
I fished around the reef further downstream with no success. After some tricky wading, I managed to get to the reef below the dam, which was covered with about 1 foot of water. I had just settled in to fish when a Crestliner pulled in and anchored right in the hole, not 25 yds away! My "what the H*ell" shrug was met with a big wave and a sh*t-eating grin...they moved 10 yards further up! (Ya gotta love our American neighbours!).
Once I was able to adjust my line weight to the strong current (had to add some split shot before I got a hit), I ended up catching four cats (two nice ones, two smaller fish) in a span of about ten casts and felt vindicated in seeing that I had outfished my neighbours, who were drifting live frogs under bobbers, with some authority. I connected in one little sweet spot and, when that was exhausted, I wasn't successful anywhere else.
I don't know if the waters have gone up or down since, but I was definitely at the edge of my comfort zone in that current and at that river depth. In fact, I did not find my route back to shore so well, and ended up "shipping" a little water, getting the old cell phone wet in the process - must have rocks in my head bringing that damn thing along on a fishing trip! I doubt that I'll be able to get back there this season, which is too bad - I love those fish!!....TIM
