hello all. new to fly fishing and also winnipeg (although i have lived here awhile) anyways look forward to meeting people tuesdays and am glad there is a group like this. i really look forward to finding and being shown the spots to fish. my brother and I went this weekend for the first time just to beasajour on brokenhead. caught nothing but at least tried to learn how to cast. definately have alot of questions about fly fishing....i purchased a 8 wt rod with a 7 - 8 reel. have a 9 wt forward for flyline? this is what the salesman gave me should i be changing this?? anyways more questions to come. also would like to get a couple of lessons for casting to make sure we are doing it right sometime if anyone has some free time......

Sounds like you've got a pretty good set-up. It's very common to "overline" the rod by a line weight. For some help with casting, I'd recommend getting a DVD. Scientific Anglers has some good ones. They are probably available at either the Fishing Hole or Wholesale Sports Outfitters.
Have fun!!! If you hang around here you'll probably get some good insights into spots to try and tactics to use. Ask some questions...

thanks for the information. i almost picked up another rod today at the fishing hole. would like to get a lighter one as well a 5 or 6 for a spare. also noticed that their is one line type sold their that does come with a dvd that i didnt notice before so if i pick up the rod ill pick up the dvd for more info. approx. how long do you guys fish for? ?? im willing to drive on weekends (benefits of company truck) so if anyone might be interested before the season is up........

how long do you guys fish for? ?? As long as my wife will let me get away with it. And then I push it a little longer. And then, even longer. When I start to break into a cold sweat as I imaging her reaction when I finally get home, then it's time to go ;D ;D Ken
