OK Bad pun
Got out to Lockport for a couple of hours in the pouring rain after work. The gate was open, nobody there but me. Cool having the whole wall to myself. And, carp jumping and rolling all over.
First cast, big brute takes (brown bead head ribbed leech-thing) , and played for about 15 minutes, then just as I was getting it against the wall, pulled free. Ah well, saves pulling out the hook. Ten minutes later, another similar fight (green flashy wooly bugger), but lost about ten minutes into it, a good fifteen feet out. Then nothing for a long spell, while I got wetter and wetter...An hour later, a couple of hook ups (black woolly-bugger-ish thing with gold rib) but both long distance releases.
Then, as I was about to pack up, another taker. This one close to the wall (brown bead-eyed DDH) - but this one caught me off guard. I fought it for the first five minutes close to the wall, thinking that it wouldn't give me too much trouble. Then, when I was least expectine it, it took off. Way out into the river! It fought ME on my killer ten weight rod like I had light gear...I fought it for about 25 minutes (not because I wanted too - I had no choice). When I finally landed the pig with the help of a king fisherman who has shown up, it was the biggest carp I have seen. Did not get a chance to measure, but BIG. Certainly MA, in any case. (woo-hoo! ;D)
Man, that was fun. Will have to get back there next week.
Cheers
Ken
