I arrived at Lockport this morning for my first time this year, only to discover that I left my wading boots at home. I went down to just have a look and spotted Tim Sopuck. We chatted a bit and I decided to give it a go just casting from shore. We were just a wee bit downstream of the concrete when we had a double header. Tim had a 25" drum and I had a 33" carp, which is my personal best. I left a little while later while Tim was out about mid thigh deep. From what I could tell Tim was out catching everyone else put together, especially his MA area rug!
I shall head back out this evening perhaps.

no tornado warnings today, so i figure im heading out... doing some last min tying now. Would be nice to get to fish with scratchy (or itchy) as I see him everyday behind the desk. The river is a much better place to spend the afternoon.

Itchie took a rain check, Scratchier went any ways since I might not get another chance. No rain, water was high, do not know how high very high is but it was up there. The center gate on the dam was wide open, and the gate along the fence was closes. Fished the "flat" down stream from the dam even there the water was waist deep or more. I Hooked and landed one med catfish which made me very happy. I have had better luck when the water is a little lower I just do not quite have a feel for how to read the water when it is so high, any insights out there. Cheers Ron.

I started out there buy the dam, but went out to the end of the spill way. The water was at least 4' up from last time I was there. I had one fish on in the main river and lost it.
The other side yeilded Drum, Goldeye, and a carp for me. Not much rain, and the winds didn't get too bad. It was actually a pretty nice day to be out on the water.

What a difference a day makes..... On Saturday (morning) I fished the east bank. Lots of action from shore (cats, including a 38" beast, and some nice drum, up to 24") , with the best action just downstream of the fence. Decided to re-live the moment on Sunday morning, only to find that, with the centre dam bay now fully open and the water at least a foot higher, the current on the east shore had reversed - it was now a back eddy of the river and I had little luck in an hour of trying. Further downstream, near the first bend, I managed to hook a carp. Decided then to take a stroll to the floodway outlet and, to make a long story short, found drum in abundance in the upstream pool. Again, lots of good sized fish around. Clausers worked best. And, true to their CYA ways, the feds closed off access to the east side and, apparently, were vigilent in chasing people off. Shudda known that they'd pull a stunt like this. Ironically, there was much more current along that wall on Saturday, before the dam bay was open and when people were allowed access, then after! ....TIM PS. On the way home, had a wonderful time at the mouth of a drain that comes into the Red. Caught a nice carp, lost three more and also hooked a rock bass. Can't say where it is because I think it's Stephen's secret spot !

Saw Shane down on the river while I had some clients out. Great to see some familiar faces. The guys I had out landed quite a few fish. Biggest Cat was 37-38 inches, biggest Carp was 33 inches and the biggest Drum was 28 1/2 inches. In total for 2 days of fishing there were over 80 fish caught. A good time.
