Anyone know if you must wear a pfd in a float tube. Probably smart but must be a hindrance to casting? What do you think?

No it is not required or a hindrance to casting (anymore than sitting down) Yes it is smart. There are days when the water is dead calm and I feel silly wearing it on a power boat free lake and times when the rollers are intense and I am thankful for the extra bit of security.
Over all a good habit to get into.

Agreed, mine is a fishing vest that has a manual and a CO2 tank to inflate. It can be a little warm on some hot summer days but i would rather be uncomfortable than the other option.

Good to know it won't hinder my casting. Never fished from a tube before so this should be fun. ;D Gonna try and get out this week, so I;\'ll let you know.

I bought a basic inflatable unit from Cabelas for about $80.00 plus shipping and etc. It's the unit that has manual, automatic and self-inflating options. Haven't used it with a tube yet but I wear it over my fly vest when I wade a Lockport. I wouldn't fish in a tube without it. ...TIM

I use a PFD that is designed for kayaking and its no problem for casting. I always wear it as my wife would not let me go fishing without it unless I increase my life insurance. I actually forgot it one day at Lyons and I felt almost half naked without it.

I agree use a pfd, its smart. I have the mustang fly vest style one and I use it all the time, because it bothers me not one bit. I would definitely give it a positive recommendation, although it is not cheap. That is the thing about a good quality vest is that it is not a pain to use, so you actually use it. Aaron
