Is at mid June levels. If we don't get some rain and lots of it the fishing may be slow this year. I was amazed at the water levels. There are some of my holes high and dry. YIKES!!!!!!!!!

C'mon Stu, you can catch fish in a mud puddle I must admit, I do like the idea of being able to wade out there with only a mild threat of ending up in Lake Winnipeg! If it's a drought year, tho, hard to say where the fish might end up...TIM

Tell that to people in Bellville But look at it this way on the opening day the wading should be pretty easy.

I wonder with the floodway construction going full blast this spring/summer, whether there will be any new restrictions on where the angling community can fish the east side

From what I have heard, there will be no access to the floodway outlet for this, and possibly, next year. With the fencing that was not washed away in the runoff, space at Lockport will be at a premium. I am expecting to see more of the public out wading by the locks.

I noticed that, as of late winter, one could walk down the shore on the east side to the floodway outlet. That access may yet remain unless, of course, they run a new fence down to the water after spring runoff. Overall, the fences are going to be a big pain in the a$$ and our ffing "sweet spots" may become a memory..TIM

Man, there are going to be a lot of pissed off people this year. I don't fish the Red (Lockport) often and when I do it is usually from my boat, but I feel for anyone who regularly shore fishes there. Start a petition and get names, sometimes by getting the ball rolling things may change? If it is part of a construction project then it may be for the safety of the public... either way, it stinks.
James.

Randy: keep at 'em - illegitimi non carborundum!
I've had chats with people from the MFFA and also the Manitoba Wildlife Federation. I think Fish Futures should also be approached to write a letter. If we let up, the ba#*@*%ds will truly grind us down....TIM

I have fished lockport only a few times...awesome fishery, with some interesting (shady) goings on. I really feel sorry for the anglers that frequent this area, as it really looks like alot of opportunity is going to be blocked out by our leaders. The sad part is not much is being said by the powers that be...not a nice way to be treating people in general. We are entitled to know what, why, and for how long. A letter writing campaign is definitely one good way to go ( I believe it helped keep twin lakes north of Roblin strictly catch and release). Having various clubs write letters of concern is good, but remember that an individual letter of concern carries more weight with the government (especially if it is numerous individual letters). This is something a wise gentleman who calls himself parklander told me years ago (Tim knows this man quite well). It can be very frustrating waiting for a response...but if they are flooded with individual letters of concern eventually something will be done...hopefully for the good. I hope things turn out ,especially since lockport is on my list of does this year.

Well plan on getting out there just after the season opens. Curious as to what I will find out there. Maybe someone will pull the fence down real fast!!!! Either that or I may have to use some WWE moves on some of the people on the east side.
