Went to the red/floodway outlet on Thursday and the water was high the locks were roaring. At the floodway outlet the water was way up into the bush and chest deep without really making it clear f the bush. Not much luck could be a lack of skill in this situation. I think I will wait for the water to drop some before trying again. Any insights?? Cheers Ron

Was it flowing in the floodway or just backed up?
In typical high level/flow the fish get blown out to the sides

I was at the floodway this morning and the water was coming over the spillway so it was definitely flowing towards the river. But the river was HIGH so the floodway's current is actually pretty gentle. All I could manage was a small drum right where the floodway pours into the river.
A boat in the middle of the floodway was doing pretty good for goldeye. I hauled out my 5 weight and some nymphs but couldn't interest any. And neither could any of the bobber-chuckers from shore. I guess the goldeye were just too far out of reach.

If possible, try working the point. The path is a bit of a challenge, with the excessive erosion, but if you can get to the water, there are a large number of goldeye, carp, and maybe even cats make it worth it.

I have not tried it but both are really high here in town I would think if you went now to the assiboine the current is slower with the high water, LOL tell us how it goes. Worst comes to worst you can always walk out. Cheers Ron.

Yes on the way to work this morning the foam does not look like it is moving much. This would be the time to try a float tube, I do not know if I am brave enough to try it first though. Cheers Ron.

Was there last monday, the 2nd, early am, and found exactly what the others decribed, very high water. The path was actually deep under, and the islands in the floodway were gone. Had no luck at all with my 10 wt and various patterns, but then, it was a beautiful morning. Back yesterday, and the water was a fair bit lower, the islands starting to show, and the fish were all biting like there's no tomorrow. Had my boys out there and they caught tons. good fun. Ken

yesterday (mon) twix noon and 5pm the waters at the locks was low and the activity was high while the sky was overcast
the pools along the concrete had goldeye, saugers and walleye......the goldeye action is non stop if your placement moves with the feeding circuit...fly did not appear to matter too much as i used :white shiner, rusty leech and even a #4 easter egg(thanks stu)
farther out the easter egg attracted 4 cats (one landed) and a 20+" drum...
