Headed out to the floodway last night, and hooked into some nice fish! It was a three species evening, juvenile drum, juvie pike, and two very nice cats! This was the first of the two, coming in at 35". It was caught on a Prince Nymph (again). This fly seems to be somewhat effective at Lockport for me, and I caught the drum on it as well. A big thanx to Ki Ziegenhan for taking this picture for me. He also helped me net it. All around standup guy. The second was probably closer to 30". It was caught on a new fly I was testing out; This is the actual fly I was fishing, which is why it is a bit chewed up. I still haven't named this fly, but I really think the zonker is an under utilized material for Red River streamers. I am finding quite a bit of success with them. And yes, I included the jaws to show off my new vise. I had many hookups, a couple were probably fowl hooks, but a few were fair hooks for sure (you can tell by the violent head shakes). Water was very high. The river downstream of the dam was almost as high as the upstream side. Not much water coming out of the floodway, so the currents in the outlet area were very calm compared to the river itself. There were many fish actually jumping out of the water near the rip rap breakwaters, which was pretty cool to see.

So the eyes are green bead chain?? they seem somewhat up turned so.... The yellow mesh body material is what?? I agree on the zonker thing. When I fished that place a lot this fly did well for me but if'n I was to take it serious again I would tie it hook point up Bonker Zonker style

Eyes are plastic beads on a cord, one of those cheap necklace things you get at the dollar store. Body is a product called PET Neon Yellow: cableorganizer.com/uv-reactive/I thought it would be brighter than it is, but it turns out that it has a very interesting texture. It feels like a minnow when tied on the hook as I have, as it gives it a bit of a belly (I compress the ends towards themselves, and it bulges slightly in the middle). All to say the fly rides point down but isn't too heavy so I didn't have many hookups with the riprap, and I didn't loose any hooks at all.
