I had a chance to go to lockport on Friday. As chrisN had said there were lots of fish very close to shore, some within rods length of shore. I fished in the floofway basin as the water was slow and more clear there, and the fish were there. I finally got to try out my new "fuzzy" rod. A good time was had by all and I think even the fish enjoyed it. Cheers Ron.

I did not see any, some big fast swishes out in the center, but to fast to see any faces. Cheers Ron.

I've just been tying my fireline on to 20# mono with a blood knot which seems to hold. For pike/smallmouth situations I'm going back to using kevlar as my tippet, probably with a small snap at the business end. The mason coated steel wire, with albright knot at the butt and a figure eight knot on the fly (Stu's ideas - again, thanks, Stu!) has worked well, but it will be too heavy for poppers.
James: I used to use 6" light wire leaders - I think they were Swedish - which had light snaps that had an annoying habitat of opening up and "releasing" my flies. Never had a fish cut thru tho. The other problem I had was that the leaders would kink badly after some use. Have you encountered these problems with what you're using?...TIM

Tim,
I think this is posted in the wrong post but regarding the leaders, I have not had any problems with them whatsoever. They are specifically made for fly fishing so they seem to hold up pretty well. Last year I only had a 6 wt. to use them on and that was really tough to cast the larger flies. However, with the 8 wt. this year it is definately a lot easier.
James.

Beauty fish. I was out in the floodway on Sunday, no luck this time though. I didnt get out there until 10, and the place was packed so my fishing room was very limited.
Sopuck, not much happening for cats out there. Even the bait fishers are having lots of trouble getting em. Talked to one guy whose been out there a few times allready and has only seen one cat be pulled in.
