On Monday Darrell and Richard were at the dam and i got my first Red River Drum. Last night i bumped into Kim (fish'n musician) and I got my first Red River Channel Cat! Kim helped me land the 30"r as have never got one before and he took a picture. What a fight it's like hooking my dog only the dog won't give up. The only comparision i can give is to big male coho salmon only the salmon would have to be 40"s to compete with a 30" cat. I later landed an 18-20" cat and hooked into one that was much stonger than the first but managed to work the hook loose after a few runs into my backing. Unfortunately i was not good luck for Richard (1 fish) or Kim (fell in) but i hope that does not stop them from fishing with me!

Rob I hope your going to post that pic of the cat and it was good to met you in person and next time I bumb into you I won't take a dip in the River. I went out the following evening and got a goldeye.Around dusk I started to get some hits but all of a sudden there were about fifty people around me,I went on casting that held some at bay(for a short while)but I finally gave up,there were just too many of them. The water was down from the previous evening which allowed access of the reef too all the bait and tackle people.I think I'm going to try the AM this sunday before the crowds arrive......kim

A mad addiction you bet it is.... all i can think of is going back and getting more but. It is my wife's 40th and apparently i need to be around for a couple of things.. Th tackle was a 9.5 fenwick 8wt and a diawa swf8/9 i was using a hand tied 3x leader (6lb test) and a grey unweighted marabou/tinsel streamer. Kim after you left i had a similiar invasion But after i hooked a teenager on a back cast and told him to watch out they got the point. But they soon left as the fishing had slowwed down. I was just getting sauger and walleyes while they were getting bored. Lockport is an interesting study. On friday and saturday nights young couples come down and fish. One thing we could learn from the asian fishers down there. They bring their families along mom dad kids uncles aunts etc. A real family event while the rest of us can't get the wives out of the house except to shop or get the kids away from the video games and skateboards. One thing they could learn from us is some fishing manners. None of us would crowd them out of their spots. Enough gab here is the picture of my first Red River Cat fish. Photo credit is to Kim Russell

Hope to see you again and do some ffishing with you .......Kim

Nice fish!!!
Maybe I am just paranoid since I never see them return ANY fish is they bring down the whole family to circumvent the rules and each one is counting fish as ther limit even if they aren't fishing. I suspect they all have licences on them.

Well i don't have the history of fishing down there that all of you have. But one time i was there the co's were in the parking lot checking fish #s and licenses and all the asian families that i saw pass inspection and went on there way. But, ya they do tend to not judge a fish and keep anything they catch. MAybe they think any fish ya catch is good. God knows we all know enough people who think only a few or less kinds of fish are worth catching.
